Mr. Brown has been contacted by a number of concerned parents about the issue. He is asking for an urgent meeting with South Lanarkshire's Director of Education, Larry Forde.

Mr. Brown has called on the prospective purchaser to make an immediate statement on their intentions for the future of the site. He said that, if the intention was, as had been rumoured, to build flats, the whole basis of the purchase by the unnamed purchaser of the store site was unsound.

Under the pilot scheme, tasers are to be issued to selected police officers in two areas in Strathclyde following only 3 days training. Up till now, tasers have been available only to trained firearm officers as a less lethal alternative to the use of firearms by the police.
