Robert Brown backs Christmas Card recycling campaign

Glasgow Liberal Democrat MSP Robert Brown has today added his support to the Woodland Trust annual Christmas Card recycling campaign.

Over one billion Christmas Cards get sent in the UK each year and last year the public recycled over 82 million cards. This year the target is 90 million.

The Woodland Trust Scheme is facilitated through Tesco Superstores, TK Maxx and WHSmith. As well as dropping cards off in store, they can also be collected by Tesco home delivery drivers until 31st January.

Cards can be re-cycled into kitchen roll, corrugated card, toilet tissue or various packaging materials.

Robert Brown said:

"At this time of year there can be a tremendous amount of waste after Christmas and it's important that we think about the impact this has on the environment. Recycling your old Christmas cards is a helpful contribution to saving the planet.

"Similarly, waste paper packaging from Christmas presents can usually be recycled in the recycling bins provided by the council as well.

"Residents of the West End can take their cards to Tesco Maryhill to be recycled instead of throwing them away to end up in land-fill."
