Robert backs scheme to get young people moving12.00.00am GMT Mon 15th Jan 2007 Glasgow Liberal Democrat MSP Robert Brown has called on all 16-18 year olds to take full advantage of the Scottish Executive cheaper Travel Scheme, which offers fare reductions and came into effect on 8th January. Young people in Scotland will now be able to enjoy cheaper travel on buses, trains and ferries thanks to the Scottish Government's new Concessionary Travel Scheme. The new travel scheme gives all 16-18 year olds living in Scotland a third off single bus fares across the country as well as a free rail card entitling them to a third off rail travel within Scotland. The scheme also include full time volunteers up to the age of 25 who are actively contributing to their community. Robert Brown said: "It's great that, from this month, young people across Scotland will benefit from cheaper fares on public transport - and it's great for their parents too! "This travel scheme opens up new opportunities and gives greater freedom to young people for access to work, education and social events. I know travel costs can be a problem for many young people. I hope all eligible young people in Rutherglen and Cambuslang apply to take advantage of the scheme." Application forms are available from Rutherglen Library and other main libraries throughout South Lanarkshire. They can also be obtained from Young Scot on 0808 801 0338 or by telephoning Transport Scotland on 0141 272 7175 or by emailing yp@transportscotland.gsi.gov.uk
