Ming Campbell Resignation

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 15th Oct 2007

Sir Menzies Campbell, Leader of the Liberal Democrats

"I am extremely sorry that Ming Campbell has decided to stand down. He's one of the few politicians in Britain who has broad respect across many sections of the public for his principled stands on issues like the unnecessary war in Iraq.

"He is particularly well regarded in Glasgow where he was brought up and where he cut his political teeth as a student at the Glasgow University Union."
