Robert Brown welcomes Toryglen success in Olympic Training camp bid12.00.00am GMT Mon 10th Mar 2008
Glasgow Liberal Democrat MSP Robert Brown has given a warm welcome to the news that Toryglen Indoor Centre has been recommended as a venue for pre-games training camps for the 2012 London Olympics. In all, four sports venues in Glasgow have been accepted as training locations for the 2012 Olympics, adding to a total of 28 for Scotland as a whole. The locations were accepted after examination by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games. Toryglen will host camps for football. Mr. Brown said: "I am very pleased that Toryglen has been listed in the Pre-Games Training Camp Guide and hope that many countries choose to send their football teams to the area. "The chance for young people to meet and see great role models in these international athletes and sportspeople is not to be missed either. "This is a fantastic opportunity for Toryglen - and indeed for the whole of the area - which will boost the local economy and ensure that the Olympic legacy reaches beyond London. "I hope we will be welcoming athletes from all over the world to Toryglen in the run up to the 2012 Olympic Games and will be using the opportunity to boost the area on a long term basis."
