BROWN SUPPORTS RSAMD CAMPAIGN

RSAMD

Glasgow Liberal Democrat MSP Robert Brown has added his support to the campaign against the funding cuts to the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama's budget.

The Scottish Funding Council is demanding that RSAMD make £600,000 of efficiency savings.

Commenting, Robert Brown said:

"Music and Drama are central to the richness of Scottish life, and Scotland's international image and reputation. RSAMD alumni are taking Hollywood and the small screen by storm at the moment. But future generations may not be able to take advantage of the same opportunities as James McAvoy or David Tennant.

"The RSAMD will struggle to make £600,000 worth of efficiency savings without compromising their excellent teaching standards.

"The Scottish Government must make sure that the huge potential of the Royal Scottish Academy for Music and Drama is not damaged. These cuts must be reversed."

Ends.
