Glasgow Liberal Democrat MSP Robert Brown has today slammed the Prime Minister's first year in office, saying that areas like Rutherglen and Cambuslang have not benefited from Gordon Brown's leadership at all.
"Rutherglen and Cambuslang have been let down by Gordon Brown.
"He has been in office for a year and, if anything, we are worse off, with the erosion of civil liberties through the disastrous decision to allow people to be locked up for questioning for 42 days, the credit crunch means people are less likely to obtain a mortgage, and we are waiting for the announcement of more Post Office closures in Rutherglen to follow those recently made in Glasgow - there are now less Post Offices than there were when Gordon Brown first came to power.
"Instead of the strong leadership claims Labour spun last year, we have endured months of dithering, indecision and a chaotic government under Prime Minister Brown. He seems more like a rabbit frozen in the headlights rather than a person giving leadership to the country.
"He failed to listen to residents about the Post Office closures, and now thousands of local residents on low incomes continue to be worse off under Gordon Brown's 10p tax grab, despite the panic concessions last month.
"Many local residents are worrying about their rising mortgages and, because of the credit crunch, many more are concerned that they cannot get a mortgage at all. There is certainly no "feel good" factor under this Labour Government.
As I go around Rutherglen & Cambuslang speaking to residents, I find more and more anger as matters get worse under Gordon Brown's Labour Government rather than better.
