ROBERT BROWN MSP WISHES SCOTT AND TRAVIS LUCK ON FUNDRAISING JOURNEY12.00.00am GMT Wed 18th Mar 2009
Glasgow Liberal Democrat MSP Robert Brown today met with Scott Cunningham and his guide dog Travis to hear about their upcoming trek along the West Highland Way in support of the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association (Guide Dogs). On April 4th, Scott and Travis will embark on their fifth long distance trek having already completed the West Highland Way once as well as the Southern Upland Way, the Speyside Way & the Pennine Way. On the trip, Scott, a massive Rangers fan, and Travis will be accompanied by a number of former Rangers players as well as two Royal Marines. So far, the duo's adventures have raised over £60,000 for the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association helping to buy and train nine dogs. In a twist to the normal West Highland Way, which is usually walked from South to North, Scott and Travis will go North to South making them the first blind man and guide dog to attempt the route. In addition, rather than finishing in Milngavie, the route's regular starting point, Scott and Travis will continue to Ibrox in time for the Rangers V Motherwell match on April 11th. Robert Brown said: "It was a real pleasure to meet Scott and Travis today and hear about how preparations for the trek are going. "Listening to Scott talking about his previous adventures with Travis and about the amount of money they have raised together for Guide Dogs was truly inspirational. "Not only will the upcoming trek help to raise vital funds for Guide Dogs but it should also act as an inspiration to other people to embrace challenges big or small. "I would like to wish Scott and Travis the very best of luck with their trek."
