Glasgow MSP Robert Brown has called for a "culture change" to tackle the alcohol problem Scotland faces today. Mr. Brown made the call as a BMA report, 'The Human Cost of Alcohol Misuse' was published today.
Mr. Brown said:
"This report from the BMA must be taken seriously. They are right to point out that there is no single solution to Scotland's alcohol addiction.
"We need to encourage a major culture change in Scotland, particularly among young people. This requires action across a number of areas but the focus should be on creating positive alternatives for young people.
"This includes encouraging community projects such as midnight football as well as tighter enforcement of existing laws on the sale of alcohol to those under the influence or underage.
"We must also support people with alcohol problems. By giving them proper access to well funded support services we can treat alcohol addiction in this generation while preventing it in the next."
